GOV-X SOUTH AFRICA INNOVATION CHALLENGE TERMS & CONDITIONS

CHALLENGE DESCRIPTION:

The GOVX-INNOVATION 2021 – Challenge (the “Challenge”) is a South African cybersecurity competition that will consist of the following events:

  • A series of webinars introducing the ultimate objectives, topics and security themes

  • Initial submission to qualify for the finals

  • Top ideas based on the submissions compete in the innovation challenge and will be guided & mentored by security industry experts throughout the finals stage

  • Final judging of the top teams to reveal the winner

 

The online qualifier is based on the initial submission of the team’s ideas on how to solve the cybersecurity categories.

The top teams from the online qualifier will advance to compete in the final innovation challenge.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Challenge is open to registered students in Africa. Entrants must be 18 years of age at the time of entry. Sponsor and its subsidiaries and affiliates, and each of their respective officers, directors and employees, and their respective immediate family members and/or those residing in the same household of each are ineligible to enter the Challenge or win a prize. This Challenge is void where prohibited by law.

 

HOW TO ENTER:

Eligible participants may enter the Challenge by registering at https://www.govxinnovationchallenge.com/get-involved (the “Website”) and completing the registration form.

 

The Challenge is mainly a team-based competition and each team is required to have a team leader. Solo competitors can also participate. There is no limit on the number of members per team for the initial submission / online qualifier.

Each participant may only enter the Challenge once.

 

The top teams based on their online submissions will qualify for the final, with a maximum of six (6) members (team leader plus an additional five (5) participants) per team allowed to represent the team in the final.

Limit one (1) entry per team for the Challenge.

 

All requested information on the Challenge page must be completed to enter and to be eligible to win.

Sponsor shall have no liability for any entry that is lost, intercepted or not received by the Sponsor.

 

REGISTRATION STAGE:

Registration needs to be completed by March 5th 2021.

QUALIFICATION STAGE:

The initial idea & concept submission (“Online Qualifier”) begins at 08:00 am (GMT+2) on February 1st 2021 and ends at 18:00 (GMT) on March 5th, 2021.

 

Scores will be calculated for each team and the top teams move into the final competition phase.

 

The following activities are strictly prohibited at any time during the Challenge:  

  • Any activities or actions that would interfere, obstruct, or disturb other teams, participants, and event organizers;  

  • Spying on other teams, participants, and event organizers; Participating in multiple teams, and any attacks on the network and/or systems. If the Sponsor finds that a team has engaged in any prohibited activity, the Sponsor has the right to deduct points or disqualify a team at its discretion.

FINAL STAGE PRIZE:

  • First place winner will receive ZAR 100 000.

  • Second place winner will receive ZAR 30 000.

  • Third place winner will receive ZAR 10 000.

 

Prizes may be subject to terms, restrictions and conditions imposed by the Sponsor. Further, all prize winners will need to provide all requested personal information to prove student eligibility.

 

GENERAL PRIZE CONDITIONS:

The prize winners shall be solely responsible for any required or applicable federal, state, provincial and/or local taxes and the reporting consequences thereof, and for any other fees or costs associated with the applicable prize.

The Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries and related companies, or their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents will not be liable for unsuccessful efforts to notify a winner. No prize transfer, assignment or substitution by winner permitted except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. If the prize becomes unavailable, the Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. If a potential winner declines the prize, does not respond to the prize notification, fails to claim the prize, is unavailable for prize fulfilment, fails to abide by the Official Rules, or is ineligible, the Sponsor may select the next highest scoring team as the winner.

 

RELEASE:

By receipt of the prize, the winner agrees to release and hold harmless the Sponsor, and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, and each of their respective parent companies and each such company’s officers, directors, employees and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the Challenge or receipt or use or misuse of any prize.  

 

The Released Parties are further not liable for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in the Challenge; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorised human intervention in any part of the entry process; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the processing of entries; o (5) late, lost, undeliverable, or intercepted electronic mail. If for any reason an entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, the entrant’s sole remedy is another entry in the Challenge, if it is possible.

 

The prize money will be awarded solely to the person whose email is listed on the team registration. It is the sole responsibility of the registrant to distribute any potential winnings. The Sponsor takes no liability for the distribution of payment to other group members.

PRIVACY:

Personal data collected from each participant in connection with the Challenge registration will be used only for the purposes of the Challenge and each participant agrees to such processing.

 

Any communication or information transmitted to the Sponsor and/or the Website by electronic mail or otherwise is and will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary.

 

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY:

Submissions to and creations during the challenge remain the intellectual property of the individuals or organisations that developed them. By registering for the challenge, entering a submission and creating works during the challenge, however, the participant agrees that the organisers, benefactors and official partners receive an irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to use, distribute to the public, and publicly display and perform such submission and works for non-commercial and promotional purposes

PUBLICITY:

Except where prohibited, participation in the Challenge constitutes winner’s consent to Sponsor and its agent's use of the winner’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and/or hometown and state or province for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without consent or further payment or consideration.

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

The Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Challenge, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Challenge, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. No participant will have any claim against the Sponsor for such a termination.

 

The Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Challenge or to be acting in violation of the terms and conditions or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Challenge may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these terms and conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

GOVERNING LAW/JURISDICTION:

All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these terms and conditions or the rights and obligations of entrants or the sponsor in connection with the challenge shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of South Africa without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that would cause the application of any other state’s laws.

 

WINNERS LIST:

The Challenge winner’s list will be posted on https://www.govxinnovationchallenge.com/  after May 22, 2021.
